Hi, my name is Bella.
I am thirteen years old. I am a dreamer and a doer.
When I was little, my dad used to travel a lot. He made certain to bring me a gift from a disabled individual in the country he had visited. He explained to me that in many countries talented individuals make beautiful products. Still, because of poverty and their disability, they cannot make a living from the money local people would pay for their items. This got me thinking.
I can help by creating a way for these individuals and families to sell their items on the global marketplace at a fair price, and possibly even more than they would be worth compared with mass-produced items. I know it is better to help create employment and assist individuals in earning their own living, so I wanted to create a commercial model that would build financial independence and instil the belief that a disability should not restrict an individual’s opportunities in life.
This is a big dream, and I know there are many obstacles in the way. I have established the company as a Community Interest Company – this means the sole purpose of the company is to improve the lives of those we serve and not to make an owner or Director rich. At the same time, we will run this company as efficiently as possible – with a charitable heart and a commercial brain. For this reason, I am hoping you will join me in making this dream a reality.
We are starting by offering products from Afghanistan and Zimbabwe (Afghanistan has one of the highest disability levels on earth and Zimbabwe is where my late grandmother lived and helped children with a disability when my dad was little). Not only do the communities in these two countries desperately need a helping hand, they frame the scope of the challenge. We hope to add another ten countries in the next twelve months.
Please take a look at the rest of the website. I believe this dream should be made a reality. With your help it will be achieved.
Thank you.
Bella
Why this Matters
A disability is when someone has a condition that makes some daily activities harder, like walking, seeing, hearing, or learning.
Some disabilities happen because of:
- Injuries from conflict
- Health problems
- Accidents
- Conditions people are born with
Afghanistan

14 out of 100 adults have a severe disability

Around 1 in every 3 disabilities are related to movement, such as difficulty walking

About 5 out of every 100 people have a physical disability
Zimbabwe

2 out of every 100 people have a disability

Movement-related disabilities are one of the biggest groups

About 1-4 out of every 100 people have a physical disability
What should we remember?
A disability can helps us learn and grow to become someone who can inspire others and make the world a place of learning. People with disabilities can:
- become a leader
- learn
- work
- play sports
- create things
- contribute to their communities
- help others
A more accessible world helps everyone.
